Hello Nanaimo!
My name is Alison Coughlin, an RMT practicing at Mountview. I am a graduate of the West Coast College of Massage Therapy and while I am new to the profession, my hands are skilled and confident, as I am also an esthetician with 10 years of experience.
Wellness comes in many forms and it looks differently for everyone, with this in mind, I intend to practice with open communication that allows individuals to be involved, working together to provide safe, effective treatments.
As a massage practitioner I have learned that soft tissue manipulation is done with an array of different techniques, depths of pressure and endless combinations. Massage not only affects one’s muscles but it also has profound effects on the nervous system. Which to me is special, because our nervous system both gives us life and experiences it at the same time.
On a personal level I love to learn, to move my body better, to be a better cook, to listen more, to be a better partner, to have boundaries, to let go of perfection, to be brave. I love to wander outdoors, observing the birds and taking in nature. It’s easy to get caught up in our busy world but, the world around us is amazing, we are amazing, and I look forward to providing a safe, comfortable space for release.

I found my passion for massage therapy while working as an administrator at a multidisciplinary clinic in the Fraser Valley. I realized the benefits of manual and active therapy and wanted to learn how I could help individuals get back to their best selves. With that passion, I started my education at CDI College in South Surrey and graduated in 2019 with honours.
I believe that patient education and self-care are important parts of massage therapy. My treatment approach is patient focused and your health is my number one priority. I believe that your health is in your hands and I’m just there to guide you.
I use a variety of techniques including trigger point release, active release, passive stretching, Swedish, MET, PNF. I can accommodate different levels of pressure, but naturally my pressure is on the firm side. I enjoy working with all age groups and have experience in treating a number of conditions such as musculoskeletal injuries, sports injuries, pregnancy, TMJ, abdominal, and chronic pain. You can expect passive-assisted, and active therapy, along with homecare from my appointments, as indicated.
In my spare time I enjoy exploring BC with son and my dogs. I enjoy kickboxing, a good local brewery, and patiently waiting for the Canucks to win the Stanley Cup. (I am a very patient woman).
